Reminiscence
Friday, August 17, 2007
2 days ago I dreamt of Mr Yap- My Mentor from ward 64 ENT. I forgot what the dream was about, but it stoke up memories of many years ago. Its been 4 years since I've left nursing but I still miss those old days.
And so I decided to to come up with a list of why I love nursing, maybe it may evoke my love for nursing and my return to the profession?! Hmmm I don't know.
1.The job satisfaction of having to look after ill patients and have them discharge from my care.
2.My patients when they tell you how much they appreciate having you to care for them and whenever you are able to assist them in relieving their discomfort and pain.
3. Having the knowledge to know my bed ridden patients who are unable to care for themselves with their activities of daily living that the comfort they can recieve from just by turning them in bed, moving them from the bed to the chair, maintaining their oral hygiene, changing their diapers and cleaning them brings them joy.
4.The chance to practise my nursing skills and knowledge which I pretty much have returned back to my lecturers, I remember the skills but I will need practice on the process and procedures.
5.The chance to work with the whole professional team, the doctors, my nursing managers and especially the other lovely nurses who works with their hearts and my junior nurses.
6. My SGH uniform! Having not to fret about what to wear to work everyday!
7. The career prospect... What will it have been like if I have taken up the offer of scholarship from SGH to Australia's RMIT? I know I would still be serving my bond now! (5 years!) Maybe I'll be a senior staff nurse by now! :)
8. The healthcare benefits- having to enjoy discount with surgical procedures, I heard so much about the discounts my friends enjoy with Lasik!
Whao manz... Only 8 pointers? But still I find it good enough for me to return to nusring because I love nursing... But still I must say that I have never regretted leaving nursing. I learnt so much from leaving the sheltered profession.... And now memories floating over my head about all my past careers...
Singapore Sports School I made so much lovely friends in SSS. Irwin, Wailin, Jess, Des, Mike, Dave, Grace, Peggy, Queenie, Gerard and so many more... How about my lovely yet naughty students! Those talents and their determinations. The chance to look after them and staying in the hostel on my own.
After I left SSS, I do wonder, how would it be like if I have accepted SIA's offer to become an air stewardess instead of taking up Mediacorp's offer! I know I would be flying now still, enjoying the chance to see the world and being paid to do that, and the amount an air stewardess earn- will be so much more than what I have earned in MCR! I heard from Alfi, a wife here whose an ex SIA girl, generally she'll get about $3.5k on normal days and more than $5k for good months! OMG! I would have earn so much more!
But if I did take up their offer, I won't be able to 1. Meet Adeline, Connie, Yati and the Class 95 crew!
OMG that's the only thing I miss from Mediacorp! My friends! I know I don't miss that miserable pay I had...
I miss you guys!!! Ade, Connie!
But the job experience I had... I don't think I can find it anywhere else, Subaru Challenge... The weekend roadshows... Having to come up with events, planning and executing them, Connie's MATP- Movies At The Padang, that was fun but a torture for Connie I am sure for the logistics... The IKEA and Courts Van shows and Live OB-OMG! The christmas tree promo... I am happy I never have to go through it again, though it was fun but still SO MUCH Work... Having my first new year count down without my family and friends but with Jean and Yaz at Mt Faber (that was nice) but a BI**H barking at my ass! Oh I miss Office Visits too- the chance to savor yummy food for free but the headache of going through having to cold call for sponsors! Our christmas party at the clinic- my nurse outfit haha... OMG there are so much more to reminiscence about! I shall stop for now...
